Moko Harley Quinn Crestie Cook

Moko arrived at his forever home in the mail in October of 2016! He is a harlequin crested gecko (often called a “crestie”). The name Moko is from the Te Reo Maori language (the indigenous language of New Zealand) for “gecko.” Moko used to be pretty social with people until his mom met her husband. Then he became a bit jealous and mean—he isn’t all that willing to be handled by people now, but he is still pretty cute!

Like all crested geckos, Moko is nocturnal. He sleeps during the day and is very active at night. He loves to jump and climb. Moko jumps into the walls of his habitat often and makes a loud thud. His life expectancy is 20-35 years. At one point, this breed was thought to be extinct, but they were rediscovered after a storm in New Caledonia in the South Pacific.
